The History of Mardi Gras! Galveston
Mardi Gras was first publicly observed on Galveston Island in 1867. Following a sabbatical imposed in 1941 by war and challenging times, Mardi Gras! Galveston was revived in 1985 by Galveston-born preservationist and developer George P. Mitchell.
Galveston Pleasure Pier
The Galveston Pleasure Pier is is located right off of the main Seawall Blvd and just out into the gulf waters creating a scenic picture from all angles. With over 15 rides and attractions, midway games, and plenty of amusement park style dining options, it’s a fun way to spend a few hours. Since buying tickets individually can be a bit expensive, I’d recommend getting buying an all-day ride pass or a family all-day ride pass because I’m sure once you’ve tried out the iron shark roller coaster once, you’re going to want to do it again! And don’t forget a funnel cake, just maybe not right before you ride said roller coaster.

Summer Family Beach Challenge

The challenge will transform a portion of Stewart Beach into a gigantic obstacle course, allowing families to compete in life-size versions of classic games. The course includes 14 stations for kids and adults with eight new stations this year, including a bean bag game, a life-size battle ship game, limbo, volley balloon, “beam” bag, giant Connect Four and more. The event is free and participants will have a chance to win the grand prize of a $500 gift card plus tickets to popular Galveston attractions.
